What will pupils and teachers need?
PowerPoint, Keynote (iPad) or Google Slides. Access to your school website and Google Images.
Prior Learning
Pupils should be familiar with using presentation software using our free Year 4 Animation Activity Pack and Year 4 Graphic Design Pack (first activity is free).
Introduction
This activity pack teaches pupils different graphical design and presentation skills in the popular software of PowerPoint, Keynote and Google Slides. It also explains how an app works through navigation and usability.
👨🏫 Teacher input
Watch the video above with your class (also included in the pupil activity pack), which introduces app design and some of the key things to remember. Watch the videos from the activities below together for the software you know your class will be using and brainstorm ideas pupils may have for their app. You may find is easier for pupils to design an app for your school, which is what is covered in the tutorials.
🚦Differentiation
Less able pupils may need support to do some of the technical aspects of the activities below, such as changing the slide size. More able should be encouraged to move onto next task/video independently and use transparent icons (activity 3) throughout their app.
✅ Assessment
Pupils can save their PowerPoint, Keynote and Google Slides presentations in the usual way.
🏅 Certificates
Below is a certificate of completion for pupils that can be edited in Microsoft Word and printed. This could be awarded if you feel pupils have demonstrated the skills taught in the activities.
