Hector's World is part of the CEOP Think U Know and has a series of videos that centre around sharing personal information through online games, competitions and other websites.

Penguin Pig is an eBook or book that is about a young girl who finds some unusual information online and believes that it could be true. This leads to an adventure that challenges pupils' beliefs that what they read online is always correct.

Chicken Clicking is the story of a chick who sneaks into a farm to use the Internet and soon gets caught in the trappings of online shopping and profiles. It is described as Little Red Riding Hood for the iPad generation and is available in hardback, paperback and Kindle on Amazon. It is also available on the iBook Store

The BBC Bitesize website has a nice interactive page about keeping private information safe and provides a good stimulus for a whole class discussion.

Email does not really form part of the Key Stage 1 Computing curriculum but is a good idea to introduce it as part of e-safety awareness. You could discuss with your class about that email is and why people use.
If you have iPads in your class then you could use Maily app which is a free app that provide a safe environment for the pupils to send messages to the teacher. The video below goes through the app and is from our parent section but can be easily adapted to use with a class. |
Safer Internet VideosThe Safer Internet Centre website has videos that you can watch with the children, divided into age group. The ages 5-7 videos look at watching videos safely online and creating avatars. There also education packs.

Assessment
Pupils could demonstrate their awareness of e-safety with their IT skills by creating posters, storyboards or 10 rules for e-safety. This could be done in Word, Publisher or something simpler such as Junior Infant Tools, Tizzy or Tux Paint. See other Year 1/2 objectives for lessons on using this software.
