World Book Day Inspired Computing Activities
Green screen video and images
Many primary schools invite children to dress up as a book character on World Book Day and a nice way to celebrate this is by adding the children to a scene or front cover from their book using Do Ink Green Screen.
Audio and Video Book Reviews
Pupils can add audio book reviews to book front covers using QR codes. You can watch a view tutorial for this here.
Alternatively you could augmented reality to attach a video book review to a book front cover by using the front cover as a trigger image using Aurasma app.
Character Social Media
What if a famous book character had a social media account such as Twitter? What would they say? Teachers could create a template for a tweet or Facebook status (see example below which is from a History lesson) and the pupils could find a profile picture from the internet and write a status from a particular part in the book. For group activities you could have characters replying to each other over social media. The finished examples could be compiled to create twitter timeline on the school blog, see History example here.
Key Stage 2 pupils could use Scratch to program a quiz about books, authors and characters. See video tutorials below.
