Pupil Activity Code: SVW4 – What is it? 

Progression of skills in this pack
1. Select and use non-adjacent cells plus resize multiple cell widths and copy/paste cells (Activity 1) 
2. Find data and create a spreadsheet to suit it. (Activity 2)
3. Use formulae to find totals, averages and maximum/minimum numbers (Activity 2)  
4. Search a database for specific information. (Activity 3)

Introduction
Data Handling has been an ever-present in the ICT/Computing curriculum for many years. They are skills that should be performed regularly within different subjects.

Prior Learning
If pupils are new to using programs such as Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets then it is worth looking at ourĀ Year 4 Data Handling Activity Pack first, which covers creating spreadsheets and charts from data.Ā The activities below consolidates the skills in the year 4 pack and also introduces new ones such as usingĀ formulae.

šŸ›  What will teachers and pupils need?
Pupils will need access to spreadsheet software such as Excel on Windows, Numbers on an iPad or Google Sheets (Chromebook).Ā

Due to the different versions of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), it is a good idea to show pupils the help menu, to help locate tools.Ā

PupilsĀ should beĀ encouraged to save their spreadsheets and write down their answers for activity 3.

Activity 2. Tour De France Project
The Tour de France is a bike race around France (and nearby countries). Each part of the race is divided into stages between two places. In this project you are going to find the distances of the different stages create and spreadsheet with formulae to find different totals. Use the videos below to help you.
