Year 2 Ebook Creation
Why teach  ebook creation?
eBook creation introduces and develops a number of digital skills that pupils will use in many other programs. It also blends together different forms of media and communication (text, audio and images) into one ‘blank canvas’ book, meaning teachers and pupils can effectively make a book about any subject or topic. The software used in this pack is very simple to use for younger pupils and a nice introduction into our Year 4 eBook Creation Activity Pack.

Progression of skills in this pack
Add a book cover with title, author, colour and image.
Add multiple pages based on a theme.

Add text on different pages.
Add images on different pages to match the theme/text
Add voice recordings to match the text and theme.

National Curriculum Content

Use technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content.

What will you need?
Pupils will need a login to the free website www.writereader.com. The first video below demonstrates how to create classes and pupil accounts plus other important settings.

What books could pupils make?
As mentioned above, Write Reader allows pupils to add their own images so books can be made about any topics. For example, pupils could take screenshots of their digital work, such as screenshots of their Programming Activities or Digital Artwork, add these images to their books, then record how they were created.

To take a screenshot that saves to a file on Windows press the Press the Windows+PrtScn keys on your keyboard. For an iPad, hold down the home button and standby button at the same time to save a screenshot to the Photos app. For a Chromebook, press Ctrl + Shift + window switch key, then click and drag your cursor to select the area you’d like to capture.

Plus there are many other types of books pupils could make:

Instruction Writing
The pupils could take photos of making something (such as baking) and then use different pages of their book to write their instructions.

Research
The books can be used in a simple way for pupils to communicate facts with images.

Languages
Pupils could make their own language vocabulary books and because audio can be added, then pupils can also record their pronunciation.
